A gallery tour with artwork by Matt Rapport
Exhibition 3D pre-visualization for SMFA Traveling Fellowship
Role: VR Experience Design, Assets Design, 3D modeling
Project Background
I worked in Matt's studio in 2015 summer, when he was working on his solo exhibition leisure | time | share. The project explores the timeshare industry in Torremolinos, Spain; furthermore to explore the intersection of consumerism, mass tourism and economy. The piece contains photos, collage prints, 3D scans, digram, video and interactive blue light board.
While Matt was applying to the SMFA Traveling Fellowship, we decided to include a 3D pre-visualization video in the proposal. The video helps the curators and judges understand the overall scope of this project. It also help the artist to figure out the best presentation for each piece and their relationship with one another within the gallery space.
Design & Production
I built the 3D gallery from scratch in Cinema 4D using the existing ground plan from the museum gallery. Importing Matt's artwork into 3D environment, I also added the picture frames, display table and white board to complete the final look. After all the elements were ready, we played with different displays and layouts in the virtual gallery. I also set up different camera angles and lights to capture the entire experience and produced a 1.5 mins gallery walk through video below.
